It’s one of the top 3 comedies in cinema history.
Haven’t seen it. One day I will.
Only to critics. It had a 15 million dollar budget and made 46 million worldwide, which means it made money but not very much. So it's a cult movie. Compare that to another cult movie, the Rocky Horror Picture Show which had a 1 million dollar budget and has made 113 million plus. or compare it to another cult comedy, Blazing Saddles which had a budget of less than 3 million and made 119 million. Those are movies actual people love. The Big Lebowski is good for a few memes and not much else.

i can’t imagine why ... it does not stand up well with time ... marginal when it first came out and nearly unwatchable when i tried to watch it again a few months ago
