Additionally, I'm adding the belief that the candidate can beat President Trump ("Probably Beat" - "Probably Lose").
Candidate | Dem Fav |
Ind Fav |
Dem Beat Trump |
Ind Beat Trump |
---|---|---|---|---|
Donald Trump | -75 | -12 | ||
Elizabeth Warren | 65 | -6 | 50 | -18 |
Bernie Sanders | 54 | -8 | 30 | -16 |
Joe Biden | 52 | -10 | 48 | -11 |
Kamala Harris | 48 | -20 | 19 | -37 |
Pete Buttigieg | 42 | -9 | 6 | -29 |
Beto O'Rourke | 39 | -22 | -2 | -39 |
Corey Booker | 38 | -14 | -2 | -37 |
Julian Castro | 28 | -14 | -13 | -39 |
Amy Klobuchar | 23 | -12 | -11 | -38 |
Andrew Yang | 15 | -5 | -12 | -34 |
Tulsi Gabbard | 11 | -10 |
Bottom Line
From this poll, Independents don't think that ANY Democrat candidate can beat President Trump.
Furthermore, Independents have an opposite view of the Democrat candidates from the Democrats themselves. This may change as the number of Independents who say "Don't Know" goes down.

Issue | Dem % | Ind % | Rep % |
---|---|---|---|
Health Care | 26 | 18 | 8 |
Immigration | 3 | 11 | 26 |
Environment | 20 | 12 | 3 |
Economy | 10 | 15 | 19 |
Gun Control | 13 | 6 | 4 |
Social Security | 9 | 11 | 9 |
Abortion | 2 | 5 | 8 |
NOTE: I don't believe that Abortion was a low issue for Democrats. Something is wrong here.
Here is a review of the favorable minus unfavorable for each political party (excludes "Don't know"). Score is "Very favorable" + "Somewhat favorable" - "Somewhat unfavorable" - "Very unfavorable":
Party | Dem Fav |
Ind Fav |
Rep Fav |
---|---|---|---|
Democrats in Congress | +57 | -31 | -67 |
Republicans in Congress | -69 | -30 | +48 |
Trump Job Approval | -68 | -9 | +76 |
NOTE: Democrats are happier with their party than Republicans are with theirs (no surprise). Republicans and Democrats dislike the other party equally. Independents dislike both equally, but only half as much as the parties dislike each other.
If an election for U.S. Congress were being held today, who would you vote for in the district where you live?
Party | Dem % | Ind % | Rep % |
---|---|---|---|
Democrat candidate | 94 | 31 | 2 |
Republican candidate | 2 | 34 | 93 |
NOTE: Independents are slightly tilting towards Republicans, but 28% are still not sure.
