Glad to hear your cousin got his colonelcy. His remark did not disparage the POTUS in any way. The butterbar must have been a Clintonista.

My cousin got some payback though. Years later after he was promoted to Major General who should he find in his command but a certain Major sweating his own promotion to Lt Colonel. The Major had already been passed over twice, another fail would mean his discharge.
Cuz went to his CO and talked over the situation and they came up with a plan.
He turned in a report that he had only taken over his new command and had not had time to evaluate the Major, who was overdue promotion.
Judging by the fact his former CO had failed to make the case for advancement that he could NOT recommend the Major for advancement.
Career over.
My cousin did say he had to work hard at not smiling.
