China’s top technology hub Hangzhou plans to assign government officials to work with 100 private companies including e-commerce giant Alibaba, according to state media reports, in a move likely to raise concerns over the growing role of the state.

The step underscores how Chinese government and party authorities are growing more deeply integrated into the private sector, as its economy sputters amid an intensifying trade war with the United States.

The city of Hangzhou, home to Alibaba, will designate government officials to work with 100 local companies in the eastern province of Zhejiang, the local government said on its website.

So barbaric. Our way is much more civilized. Our companies send people for “public service” for a few years regulating the industry they are from. And our politicians move from office onto the boards of corporations after they “leave” government.

Mattis to Theranos. Obama to Netflix. Al Gore to Apple. etc etc...

The mistaken thinking is that there has not been state involvement all along.

What they are doing here is putting known strong party officials in place without even trying to hide it, like they’ve done in Honk Kong and Taiwan. Then when the orders come down, they have reliable actors in position.

Precisely. At least its out there in China. In the US we’ve got virtually the same thing, we just are more efficient about it.

We put them in cars and that way they cover more businesses more quickly. They’re already in every car built after, what, 2008?

A couple of CEO’s went to jail over faking fuel efficiency standards. Papa John had his business taken right out from under him and he didn’t even break a law. They lost so much business they had to give a piece to Shaq if he’d agree to take the stink off of the robbery.

We’ll see if it works. You couldn’t gift that pizza to me.

The Left is locking it all down. They are getting away with it too.

Apparently, this Summer a major change started taking place in China. Communist Party elites are just taking over major businesses - for themselves, not nationalizing them.

Alibaba’s Jack Ma suddenly “retired” and sign his fortune in Alibaba over to “five un-named individuals”.

Either they see the writing on the wall and are plundering what they can before a collapse, or they are moving to a new model, more closed off from the Global system.
