I agree with Washington’s advice and I wish we could follow it. The world has gotten a lot smaller since then.

That would be Reagan, the enthusiastic supporter of NATO, who positioned Pershing nuclear missiles in Germany so any Soviet invasion would trigger an all-out nuclear war obliterating tens of millions of Americans? Reagan, the man who invaded Grenada to depose the Marxist dictatorship that had just taken over? Reagan, the man who funded the Nicaraguan contras illegally, triggering the appointmentof the second Special Prosecutor ever in the nation’s history? Here’s the reality - in Washington’s time, it took months to cross the Atlantic, the range of an enemy’s guns was a couple of miles and the blast radius was a few dozen yards. Today, a city-killing nuclear-tipped ballistic missile from North Korea can reach Dayton, Ohio in under an hour.
