I remember at time later in the day and knowing that all air traffic had halted.
Living in Ames Iowa I was looking to the south and noticed a contrail heading east.
I knew it had to be Air Force One, as everything else had been grounded. I believe it was known the President had headed to Offut for awhile after leaving Florida and he was heading back to DC.
I was glad to see that as we would start the process of going after the people who had done he attacks.
I don't think that was the President. He ususlly travels with a fighter escort so you would have seen at least several contrails close and fighter jets flying below him. There were many fighter jets on patrol that day.
My great grandfather came to Ames around 1855.
