“In relative terms, the “other racial groups” were given fewer suspensions”
You’re assuming. How do you know, and the numbers prove it, they didn’t only break down the percentages and numbers to just those two races and compare these numbers only to themselves. Like I said in my first post, there is a larger percentage and number of suspensions in the works than the combined total of the two they identify.
You could say the amount of suspensions, whether justified or not, are unfair because there are a fewer number of Pacific Islanders but they have a have a higher percentage of suspensions that any of the groups since they are small and are having to take up the slack of the remaining high number of suspension unaccounted for.
Don’t get caught in the trap the bill is. The justification being used is not there to control suspensions. It is there to try to “con” the public into changing the thought process of suspensions period which should create more suspensions with a lack of student accountability due to not using the policy to protect the teacher and faculty by correcting the students with a process that will have an effect.
They’re children. If you empower children with the thought process they are going to get off with a stern talking to every time, they will act accordingly and it will escalate until it graduates from talking to to arrests for far worse issues. This is why so many young teens have little fear of the justice system as they know when they turn 18, they will be released and their criminal record purged. A “do over” that will happen. And with the lack of an attention getting process, it is inevitable.
They tried something similar to this bill in Broward County, Florida, by letting the school system create their own justice system keeping the cops out of it and using stern talkings to rather than suspensions so they could stop the large amount of racially measured suspensions. The result was someone slipped through the system and some people got shot to death. It only takes one to kill. They were lucky more didn’t surface. A lot of people didn’t get killed. But a justified system like they are creating will change that.

They should call this the Nikolas Cruz law
Next he’ll give ‘em all License To Kill, like James Bond.
Allowing black kids to break the law and blame their misconduct on whitey. Insanity.
