This is really testing my faith almost beyond all limits. I attended Catholic school, then, in college, I just stopped attending church (my agnostic phase). Forty years later, after my wife of 30 years died and I moved here and retired, I went back after a long talk with the priest. And now this! If I get through this warped pope with my faith intact, I believe God will be impressed. Is the pope Catholic? Who knows, but at least I can remain certain that a bear poops in the woods. Can’t I?”

The pope isn’t Catholic and neither am I any more. I go to the local cathedral on
Easter because the music is gorgeous. Best choir ever. Soul stirring.

But this city had and still has terrible priest child abusers. Even if the pope were Catholic, I couldn’t stay.

Keep the faith. The Catholic church is bigger than one man.
