Not to sound callous, but periodic disasters like this are the price of having bragging rights to living in a tropical "paradise." Most other times we envy these people. Not today.

I was raised south of Houston. Don't live there anymore for exactly this reason.

Yep. Like California, perfect weather, all the time, until nature decides you can die and sends drought, fire, floods, and mudslides. Mudslides have to be the worst.
