Having spent quite a bit of time in China on business, I can undeniably say that China is in much greater need of access to the U.S. market. This was an easy battle to win. Someone just needed to take a stand for the U.S. for once, and not just grab the ankles.
Sorry

You are babbling incoherently. Try traveling to China sometime. Those who can afford Western goods do so as status symbols. A 5% increase in any price of any status symbol will never stop a purchaser from buying it.
China is #3 of all nations we export goods to. Canada ($300bn) and Mexico ($260bn) are at the top, then China at $120bn, and 4th is Japan at only $75bn. (India is 9th at $33bn.)
The top US export categories to China in 2018 were: aircraft (($18 billion), machinery ($14 billion), electrical machinery ($13 billion), optical and medical instruments ($9.8 billion), and vehicles ($9.4 billion).
U.S. total exports of agricultural products to China totaled $9.3 billion in 2018, our 4th largest agricultural export market. Leading domestic export categories include: soybeans ($3.1 billion), cotton ($924 million), hides & skins ($607 million), pork & pork products ($571 million), and coarse grains (ex. corn) ($530 million).
Please, do let us know which of those people will stop being if they are 5% more expensive.
Winning!
China signaling looking for means to save face in this negotiation
Chicoms should are seriously outgunned for a trade war.
The last time they tried retaliating with $5 billion per year of tariffs ( to save face), President Trump slapped them with about $27 billion per year - the same day. The bottom line is that anything that does not benefit China, was long ago excluded from their markets. Tariffs on American goods just make things they need more expensive for them.
I dont think the chicoms can be trusted with a deal - they will have to be bankrupted. Their debt is sky high. Cut off their cash flow, and the whole house of cards will come down.
Of course. They protest too much. It’s a royal flush.
Bwinked. Only the Japanese and Koreans “brink”.
Hey dingleberry, Chinese ag imports from the USA are down 70% year on year since the idiot-mitten tariffs went on.
China’s exports are still rising in spite of the US tariffs, because they have other markets to go to. The US, not so much.
Soy beans, cotton and energy are only of interest to China?
China used to buy a few percent of our farm output, mostly concentrated in a few commodities. Their biggest purchases were always for soybeans, to feed the largest stocks of hogs in the world. This year, their pork production has been devastated by disease, dropping their feed requirements in half.
Commodity products (Ag and oil/gas) are the main things that China imports from us, that they are able to easily substitute. So they are the areas where real retaliation occurred. In other areas, they put small tariffs, and often subsidized the costs to their companies, making their tariffs largely a sham.
Just as it is easier to find alternative suppliers of commodity products, it is also easier to find alternative customers for them. Ten cents cheaper, and our product can sell elsewhere, to a significant degree.
It’s taking a bit more than 10 cents cheaper, judging by commodities prices generally.
Probably because when China announced their new tariffs on $75 billion, Trump announced larger counter-tariffs later that same day.
Dont you say that tariffs are only paid by the people buying the products? That means only the Chinese are hurt by tariffs on US goods.
Unless you are a liar.
Youve just proven that we hurt China when we tariff their goods.
I love it when idiots makes themselves transparent, dont you?
The theory was that more trade = more world prosperity = more world peace. We know how that has worked out, don't we? Due to China's superior infrastructure, American manufacturer's flocked there.
Now, many are confronted with moving elsewhere. If not to actual allied countries, to at least neutral or friendly countries. China understands this well. They also understand that if they go, they might not so easily come back. Even if American voters are stupid enough to put a Lizzie Borden Warren type in office.
Bull crap. Take it somewhere else. You're embarrassing yourself with comments like that.
“China Indicates It Wont Retaliate Now on New U.S. Tariffs”
China is out of bullets. They have no leverage. Never had any in the first place. They are an insignificant trading partner for us. We only export 140 billion of a 18 trillion dollar economy to them. We do more business with Mexico or Canada. Get rid of enemy China altogether as a trading partner and let their economy collapse into an agrarian society
