Senator Kirsten Gillibrand of New York, who presented herself in the presidential race as a champion of women and families, said Wednesday that she was withdrawing from the Democratic primary after failing to qualify for a third debate next month a development she described as fatal to her candidacy.
Ms. Gillibrand said in an interview that she would endorse another candidate in the primary but had not yet picked a favorite. Though she stopped short of saying she would endorse a woman, Ms. Gillibrand, who has made electing women to Congress a personal cause, said the next president had to be capable of uniting the country and suggested that a woman might be best suited for the job.
I think that women have a unique ability to bring people together and heal this country, Ms. Gillibrand said, adding, I think a woman nominee would be inspiring and exciting.

Ms. Gillibrand, 52, had anchored her candidacy in issues of womens equality, with a strong emphasis on abortion rights. She pledged to screen nominees for judgeships based on their support for the Roe v. Wade decision legalizing abortion, and held rallies in two Republican-leaning states, Georgia and Missouri, where conservative lawmakers recently passed new restrictions on the procedure.

She will now drop back into Ted Kennedy mode as senator for life.
FYI from my email from Albanyupdate.com:
“,,Earlier this year, Cohoes, N.Y. City Court Judge Tom Marcelle was nominated by President Donald Trump to serve as a judge of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of New York. Marcelle is a graduate of Cornell Law School who has a wide range of experience, including stints as a trial attorney at the U.S. Department of Justice; as counsel to the Republican members of the Albany County Legislature; as senior counsel at Alliance Defending Freedom; and as Albany County Attorney.

On August 29, 2019, the Albany Times Union reported that Marcelle 19;s nomination had been blocked by Sen. Gillibrand due to his opposition to abortion. This information was confirmed by Sen. Gillibrand 19;s office. (A longstanding Senate tradition allows U.S. senators to block judicial nominations from their respective home states by refusing to issue a 1c;blue slip. 1d;) After Sen. Gillibrand single-handedly derailed his nomination, Marcelle withdrew his name from consideration for the judgeship.
New Yorkers for Constitutional Freedoms is outraged and disgusted at Sen. Gillibrand 19;s treatment of Tom Marcelle. The Senator 19;s action should prompt Sen. Mitch McConnell to give serious consideration to ending the 1c;blue slip 1d; tradition once and for all. ..”
So why doesn’t Mitch McConnell end this crazy rule????
