The difference is that Trump will have a chance at a second term, while Obama was a lame duck. So, the view was that the new President should have the right to nominate the SC judge, not a lame duck one.

The so-called Biden Rule was made up in 1992. When Bush had a chance for a second term.

Yes he will. But let's not pretend it's due to the fact he's in his first term. The Biden Rule has no basis in the Constitution. McConnell blocked Garland because he could. He'll try and push through a Trump nominee next year because he can. Whether or not there are 50 vote to confirm is the unknown.

Most of these ‘rules’ have no basis in the Constitution. I guess the Democrats controlled the Senate in 1992 and just said they were going to wait to see who won the Presidency? I thought that McConnell justified his actions because of the issue of Obama being a lame duck and that the new President should decide on the SC judge.
