That’s Japanese, they can’t pronounce their “L”s. Chinese can’t pronounce their “R”s.
There’s an old story from WW2 (probably from the Doolittle raid) that servicemen were instructed to ask a suspicious asian to say Faultless Fortress. A chinese would say: “faultless faultless”. A jap would say “fortress fortress”.
Chinese pronounce Rs just fine. Not sure where you got that bogus info.
I remember reading about the counter sign word “La-La-pa-luza” being made up, during WW2, because the Japanese could not pronounce it correctly. Ra Ra pa ruza.
