I wonder how long a camera records before it loops and erases the recording...or if it records at all instead of just being live.

When I was working ours was digital, recorded continuously and went straight to a server in the state capital. Only those credentialed to pull back video could access it from the server, usually lieutenants or higher, and the video monitoring officer could review it in realtime. This system was designed so that footage could not disappear or be recorded over “accidentally”. How the feds do it, I’m not sure.

I have just a cheap security system that has its own hard drive. I have it set to record 24/7. It’ll save each cameras feed for 90 days. In this technological age there is no reason that every jail in the country doesn’t have a system.
