Tucker (among others on FNC) has been brutally direct about CNN. If you haven’t seen it, go to YouTube and search for Tucker Carlson Chris Cuomo. Carlson creamed Cuomo.
Meanwhile Brian Stelter of CNN is writing a book about the connections between Fox News and the Trump Administration.
I can’t remember ever hearing about such a confrontation between two “news” networks. Actually, it’s kind of fun to watch.

You’re attempting to look at what CNN is doing thru a logical lens. There attack is not logical, it’s pure vitriol. He goes on vacation, they claim he’s in hiding. He stays, they’d claim he’s hunted down, doubling down, in a bunker. It doesn’t matter what he does, he’s vilified by CNN.
