I'm a Southerner, raised in the pre-MLK era. I've never seen a burning cross or a Klan rally, only heard about anything like that in the newspapers, and then only on very rare occasions.
That's reality. What Hollywood is selling is pure bullsh*t.

The media and racism are an excellent example of supply and demand. The media has a huge demand for racism, of which there is short supply. So what little racism there is, even if faked, is of high value to them.
