Japan has done this for decades, a somewhat different tack:
“This political problem you cite —it’s something cultural. You don’t understand OUR CULTURE..! And we want you to. And these complaints against us, it’s JAPAN BASHING..! Now, let me tell you about the complexity our this next fascinating Japanese concept...” (insert long, detailed, care-laden sociological hocus-pocus using a bevvy of terms taken from the mysterious Japanese language)
Ya know what? IT WORKS..! The American taxpayer is forgotten, at the very least the problem is put off or the clock gets run down.
Who wants to be seen as unsophisicated? The American target’s eyes light up in weird kind of Karate-kid type enlightenment as he is disarmed and ultimately defeated.
Asia is interesting, vibrant, hard-working, wealthy and DEFINATELY NOT STUPID.
