China announced on Tuesday that it has suspended purchases of US agricultural products in retaliation for a serious violation of agreements between its President Xi Jinping and his counterpart Donald Trump.
Trumps announcement last week that the US would put a new 10 per cent tariff on US$300 billion worth of imports from China was a serious violation of the consensus of the heads of state of the two countries, state news agency Xinhua said in a report issued soon after midnight.
China has not ruled out import tariffs on US agricultural products purchased after August 3, and related Chinese companies have suspended purchasing US agricultural products, Xinhua said.
It is hoped that the US will conscientiously implement the consensus reached at the meeting between the heads of state of China and the United States, and have the confidence to implement the commitments to create the necessary conditions for cooperation in the agricultural fields between the two countries, the report added.
After the two presidents held a summit during the G20 in Osaka, Japan in June, Xinhua reported that the two leaders had agreed to resume economic and trade negotiations, and that the US said it would not impose any new tariffs on Chinese products.
Trump told reporters after the meeting that: Were holding back on tariffs and theyre going to buy farm products, adding that his meeting with Xi was far better than expected.
Negotiations since the June meeting including high-level talks in Shanghai last week between Chinese Vice-Premier Liu He, US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin failed to produce any breakthrough concessions, prompting Trump to announce the new tariffs shortly after the US officials returned to Washington.

“Tractor monkeys can KMA.”
Oh, that one is even better. I dare you, you coward.
Couch potato keyboard coward.
Crops are raw materials for what shows up for you to buy anywhere.
Learn to code.
Crops are raw materials that can be purchased on the global world market.
“They got you fooled. Manufacturing is the bedrock of any first/second world countries economy, agriculture is ghetto.”
Apples and oranges.
A safe, secure, and abundant supply of nutritious food is essential to the health and security of the nation.
Ever hear of laying siege during war? It’s very effective.
It would be suicide for our nation to become dependent on foreign powers, especially Communist ones, for our food.
Yes Rebel, he’s getting mighty personal there...
The overall world demand doesnt change.
Yes Sir.
A safe, secure, and abundant supply of manufactured goods is essential to the security of the nation.
The land is here, you can plant a field in 4 weeks you have a crop but you can't build one of these factories in 4 weeks CAN YOU?
I'm not sure which is more pronounced, your bigotry or your ignorance. So let me make it simple for you. The number you should concentrate on is not 1%, it's 35%. That is the percentage of electoral votes for the top 10 agricultural states that make up 270. So if Trump loses 10 or 15 or 20 electoral votes because a state's farm economy has gone into the dumpster because of his trade war then where does he make the difference up?
99% of people in those states are not involved in growing. Farmers have way to much political power for the size of the workforce/population and they are ALWAYS on the wrong side of every GD trade dispute.
you can plant a field in 4 weeks you have a crop
Maybe some small radishes. What are you planting?
Like they were buying our farm products anyway. They don’t got a leg to stand on. Unless they go to war, which could happen, eventually, over this.
Manufacturing and agriculture go hand and hand. Hungry people cannot produce goods efficiently.
The fact that wealth comes from the design and manufacture of goods does not detract from the absolute necessity of feeding the nation’s people.
Manufacturing industries generated $2.1 trillion in GDP (12.5 percent of total U.S. gross domestic product) in 2013.
Without adequate food supplies, modern economies fall apart.
I will not insult you, FRiend. I expect the same consideration.
America is not the only producer of raw agricultural products. We import almost all of our cloths and I don't see any naked people running around. Politically the two (manufacturing vs agri) are at odds.
That is kind of a stupid brainless comment but I'll bite. Why do we have to subsidize 1% of out GDP, farmers? Why were factory workers, at one point 20-30% of the economy told when their jobs were shipped overseas to "learn to code" or become doctors. I kid you not I was around in the 90's when this sh!t started.
