There are actually many of these types all over the place. Mentally ill, unstable, delusional and not in a mental health facility or psychiatric hospital under close watch. Just let go to menace all of us everywhere. Like derelicts who mumble all the time and then suddenly slash someone at a bus stop. Everyone could tell they were delusional.
Somebody should say “ That is a bad plan and doesn’t work and endangers society as a whole to give freedom to the dangerous mentally ill. “
We do not have an unlimited free society-—terrorists cannot carry bombs and machetes onto a 747 at an airport. A man cannot carry a gas can into an event at a crowded auditorium and set it on fire.
We should add a new limit for these soon to be mass murderers. NOT the nice folks at home with families who own guns and were not anywhere near a shooting. But will have them confiscated by Dems soon.

The treatment trend since the 1970s has been to “mainstream” mental health patients. Get them close & imbedded with “normal society” Somehow doing that will aid in their treatment. The states loved this because it saved them money. They could lose down those big ugly prison-like facilities - the “bedlams”. The problem is with no or minimal control who sees that they really get treatment. Its primarily the family and its very hard to see that its done. Often the family is too ashamed of the situation to be motivated to follow through or a single mother who’s overwhelmed by her situation to do it. Also by the time they reach the age of majority, who see’s that they are treated? They can refuse it! Also due to privacy laws you’re not allowed to know the time bomb is there in the community and not being treated. (You might discriminate!) Then toss in two generations of recreational drug use ! Its fun Its cool! That’s been a social message to people for how long now? I count 60 some years (Two generations!) That increases the numbers dramatically! Makes the problem ones worse, adds more by moving the marginals in as well as continued use creating more! (Then there’s the extreme libertarian viewpoint, ‘ there is no such thing as mental illness they are just different, So no treatment & or control is necessary! You just don’t like them!’!)
And now they have firearms.

You've touched on 2 things here;
1. Much of the mental illnesses, Mental instability and delusions stem from all of the psychotropic drugs pumped into the kids especially the boys by the school system. They do it to make life easier for unmotivated teachers who are not allowed to dispense discipline in the classroom. Then when school is over and the drugs stop the withdrawals and side effects kick in.
2. Placing mentally deranged people in asylums and mental health care facilities was branded as "Warehousing" them and cruel imprisonment during the Carter years and most such facilities were shut down and those people were dumped on the street. We see many of them living under bridges now along with the con-artist panhandlers.
Wasn’t that President Regan that closed all the mental hospitals?
