A scraped rock (roche moutonee)--- there are hundreds of them in Central Park. These are all scraped, gouged, abraded in the same direction, the direction of a massively heavy ice flow.

Yup,they're the ones. They're scattered all around the park. I saw a documentary a few years ago about glaciers and it mentioned Central Park and the outcrops. I had seen them a number of times (I love Central Park and visit it whenever I'm in NYC) but never knew that they held such scientific significance.

Just as an aside...the same documentary from which I first learned about those outcrops mentioned that the reason that all the biggest skyscrapers in Manhattan are located Downtown and Midtown is because those are the only spots on the island where the bedrock is sturdy, and stable, enough to handle them.

I found that to be rather interesting.

Nonsense. The rocks in Central Park are shaved in the same direction.

If massive ice sheets occured regularly, the rocks would be sanded down to nothing. The odds that the erosion was caused by a recent event 400 years ago is nil.
