I saw that too. My high school was awful when it came to health conditions. Basically, if you didn’t have cancer of some sort, you were treated like everyone else. Having been on my way into kidney failure, I was still forced to participate in PE even though my doctor had written numerous letters to exempt me. Apparently I had to make up F’s for PE from the previous year, when I was also supposed to have received medical exemptions; the teacher was notorious for treating “fat kids” as if they were just lazy and for picking favorites (I was heavy, but h ultimately lost 100# in water wright by 18). PE is mandatory in IL, and she felt that I didn’t deserve to be releases from having to participate. The chemo-like medication didn’t seem to sway her either.

It is irresponsible either way to allow your child to take part in recess rough-housing if they have a severe medical condition. I have gotten hit with my fair share of rubber kickball balls, and they damn well hurt and cause damage, but don’t let your kid partake.

Ultimately I need more information, such as both kids’ histories when it comes to bullying, school discipline, and so forth. There really isn’t enough here to make a solid judgment.

I’m not going to bother correcting my spelling errors. I either missed them in proof-reading or my phone kept auto-correcting to the wrong word.

Lame.

In a fair world, I would expect teachers to be protective of their students, and honor medical exemptions. I forget sometimes it’s not a fair world. I’m like you though...I need more info about the kids. It could’ve been an honest accident. It could’ve been meant to hurt the kid. Or, mom might’ve been able to handle the medical bills initially, but now the bills are getting out of hand and she needs the other kid’s family to step up. Who knows?
