Increasing diversity among officers may not be enough alone to lead to lessening racial disparity in police shootings, according to a new study.
The study published Monday in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America found no evidence that white officers are more likely to shoot minority civilians than non-white officers.
Instead, the study claims "race-specific crime strongly predicts civilian race."
The study used a database of more than 900 fatal officer-involved shootings based on information from The Guardian and The Washington Post.
Researchers analyzed different factors to try to predict the race of the person shot, The Guardian reports.
Researchers found that in counties where minorities were responsible for higher rates of violent crime, a person fatally shot was 3.7 times more likely to be black 3.3 time more likely to be Hispanic than white, the outlet reported.
But researchers found no evidence that white officers were more likely to shoot minority groups than officers of color.
The report does say diversifying police forces could have other benefits, such as building trust, but claims it wouldn't "meaningfully reduce" racial disparities in fatal shootings, The Guardian reports.
“One of our clearest results is that violent crime rates strongly predict the race of a person fatally shot. At a high level, reducing race-specific violent crime should be an effective way to reduce fatal shootings of black and Hispanic adults," the study found, according to The Guardian's report.***
It's as simple as that.
Somebody paid for that? I could have told them that for free.
When a certain group of people are committing more violent crime, it is stupid to believe changing thr racial make up of law enforcement will somehow change who the police are interacting with and how the results will be.
Violent crime is a social construct.
That one group of actors seem to be more violent than others; require more police action to stop their activities than other demographics.
Gawd I hope we didn't pay alot for that “study”..Ill do a follow up one for 1/2 the cost of the original.....in Depth and with interviews....
It was basically an Affirmative Action push to get more minorities on the ‘force’. Any cop who is, or feels, threatened, is going to shoot.
What’s interesting is not the result of this study-that’s just reality. What’s interesting is that the National Academy of Science published this, and that it was based on reports from two leftist newspapers.
Reality will win out over socialist fantasy eventually, even if it might end up having to be pounded into more than a few heads.

They told us increasing diversity among police would reduce minority crime. It was at worse a lie and if I wanted to be kind a desperate pipe dream.
I used to listen to a local black radio call in. The host used to be a cop.
He used to encourage blacks to become cops. Not to make minority neighborhoods safer for blacks but because it was a good paying job with benefits and a retirement package.
Never once did he speak of being a minority cop helping the minority community. It was all about basically a 'cushy' job that you could do you time and retire with benefits.
The hell you say. How much taxpayer money was spent on this study? What a waste. That money could’ve been spent on more urgent research. Like how long can a shrimp run on an underwater treadmill.
PCness does not allow them to admit that the behavior of the suspects is 99% of the disparities, not the race of the policemen involved.
I doubt that the average criminal cares what color skin is underneath a uniform, but I do believe in the AA angle, because the left always lies about it’s real aims.

Young black men have a habit of choosing trial by combat with the police. It doesn’t go well.
We had a Ret. Officer in Memphis host a talk show, he hammered on the black on black crime, lack of education, fathers, welfare the usual break up of the Black family.
He was right of course, then you throw in the fact Memphis wants a all black police force. When 50 of that 13% have felonies on their records you can’t hire that many black officers. Nor can they compete education wise with County educated Whites. Then You have to Live inside Memphis city Limits. NO Sane person wants to. That can’t happen. They are 13% of the Population, 60% of the Memphis population is black, as Whites had long moved out after busing started. Shelby Co has quite a few small towns, that have their own governments, on top of the County Government, that included Police, Fire, EMT, Teachers and County Commission. Now we have Black Flight to go with the White Flight out of Memphis into the neighboring counties and states as we Border MS and AR.
Memphis gave up its Education Rights, in order to pull off a coupe and take over the entire county school system, backfired, all the small towns revolted, they didn’t want the failed schools of Memphis dictating to them. Went clear to the State Legislature, the small towns won.
So they sit and B. About not being able to educate, or hire enough Black Police officers, Whites are NOT moving back into Crime Infested Memphis. Our nearest hospital is in 1 of those High Crime areas, you can see them smoking MMJ outside the hospital, some in Scrubs.
