The government, I don’t recall if it was Bush or Obama, moved the Army’s Human Resources Command from Alexandria, VA to Ft. Knox, KY a few years ago. That move was made because of the, in my view idiotic decision to merge the Infantry and Armor Centers at Ft. Benning, GA, thus leaving many buildings empty at Ft. Knox.

And during the Cold War, there was continual talk of needing to move departments out of DC so that the entire government and all its agencies wouldn’t be taken out when the Soviets nuked DC. The agencies weren’t moved and the Soviets didn’t nuke DC.

I’m still annoyed that the historic armor was taken from the Patton Museum at Knox and shoved into a warehouse at Benning, not available for public display. Criminal.
