Apparently not the character portrayed (thank goodness). According to another article:
“Bond, of course, is sexually attracted to the new female 007 and tries his usual seduction tricks, but is baffled when they don’t work on a brilliant, young black woman who basically rolls her eyes at him and has no interest in jumping into his bed. Well, certainly not at the beginning.”
Funny you should ask that, as it was my initial reaction, too. Because, I thought this actress bore more than a passing resemblance to the "it" that was winning major women's track races last year.

I was wondering the same thing when I saw the photo. Very masculine looking woman, if it is a woman.
Anyway, these movie people never learn. How many times do you have to "remake" a franchise with a female lead taking over from a male; and, then the movie totally bombs.
