U.S. exports to China dropped sharply last month as the Trump administration and Beijing appear no closer to reaching a deal to end a months-long trade war that has affected billions of dollars' worth of goods.
The Associated Press reported Friday that Chinese imports from the U.S. were down 31.4 percent from the same time last year, while the country's surplus from trade with the U.S. grew by 3 percent. U.S. imports from China dropped by a far lower rate - down just 7.8 percent over last year.
Experts remain pessimistic, according to the news service, convinced that Trump's talks with China could break down again, extending the trade conflict for months.
"Our base case remains that trade talks will break down again before long," economist Julian Evans-Pritchard said, according to the AP.

Please.
China is playing it as hard as they can. Will the US?
Time to expand and increase tariffs on Chinese imports. American importers have had plenty of time to explore alternative sources.
DO IT NOW!
“...President Trump, do something. Please...”

You got soybeans to sell, or what?
“President Trump, do something.”
Any suggestions?
He is. He is forcing China to $hit or get off the pot. When you look at the numbers, it is obvious that China is paying a far bigger price to not get US trade in that we are not sending it. And we can have a fire sale for these items to other countries and not lose a cent. We are far stronger and a little tough love is within the scope.

“China is playing it as hard as they can. Will the US?”
Nope. China knows that our progressives will cheat their way into total leadership soon (read - illegal immigrants) and then they will bend over and assume the Obama position with China.
Which - in the progressive mind - is the natural order of things.
Unless of course, we start building those guillotines.
We need to restart those increased tariffs ASAP. This is the same game China always plays. They make agreements and after a month the agreements they made were never really agreed too,
Its time for President Trump to stop playing their games.

What if alternative sources don’t exist? For various reasons, China has dominated much of US buyers’ markets. It may be (I don’t know) that many things we have bought from China in the past aren’t being made elsewhere. It takes a lot of time and financial incentive for companies to start up, especially in manufacturing.
I agree with others that say we should increase the tariffs charged on goods imported from China. I believe in order for this effort to be successful we need to be prepared to be in it long term. Trump, by all indications, is prepared. Almost no one in government who is outside his administration seems to support it though.
Time to put tariffs on all the Walmart & Harbor Freight junk.
Put a 100% tariff on Justin Amash’s stuff.
Any suggestions?
Sure. Does it say in the article that those exports went somewhere else? Or maybe Americans, with more money in their pockets purchased some of the exports.

I didn’t read the article but I’ve read that the soybean market is hurting. I doubt there’s much of a demand for tofu in the US outside of CA.

Why would we need to play hard, trade wars are good and easy to win.
A lot of national fast food chains introducing “Impossible Burgers”/’Beyond Meat” type offering that use a lot of soy.
I heard about Impossible Burgers. I wonder if they’re selling. I wonder how they taste.
Trade wars are good and easy to win, or so I heard.
This is stupid.
Imports from China are much larger than our exports. So these percentages aren’t useful.
A meaningful comparison would be in *value*. Either Yuan or dollars.
(but even this silliness shows Chinese imports down- hooray!)
