I read that as Trump saying as much as he can without saying explicitly what is going on.
I’ll bet that “Terrific guy. He’s a lot of fun to be with” line is boilerplate Trump uses, and has been quoted using the same type of language hundreds if not thousands of times.
I don’t see how some think that reflects poorly on Trump.

Trump said that in 2002, seventeen years ago and about 4 years before Epstein was charged the first time.
I don’t see how it reflects poorly either. I’m sure on the surface Epstein seemed like a fun guy.
