Why do you think that there was a mistake? Since you don’t have any idea what’s going on behind the scenes, the announcement was, in all probability, part of Trump’s original plan. Second guessing President Trump is a fruitless exercise.
That was intentional. Art of the Deal. He showed them one of his cards.

He probably will do just that - he’s giving Nancy a chance to break another promise about doing something and building a stronger case for large-scale raids and deportations - might even show video of crying people and let the bleeding hearts know that the Dems could have helped ease the pain but refused....again...because they really don’t give a flip about the people outside what they can get from them as political leverage...they look upon people as chattel..
