A medic testifying in the trial of Navy SEAL Edward Gallagher – who is accused of killing an injured ISIS prisoner of war in Iraq – has shockingly testified Thursday that he is the one who killed the militant, not Gallagher.
The medic told a court at Naval Base San Diego that he killed the fighter by asphyxiation. He also testified that Gallagher stabbed the fighter, but did not kill him.
Gallagher, 40, has pleaded not guilty to premeditated murder and aggravated assault charges stemming from the alleged killing of a wounded ISIS fighter and alleged instances of firing sniper rounds at civilians in Iraq.
Gallagher was undergoing a medical screening at Camp Pendleton and was in the process of transitioning to a non-combat advisory role for the Navy SEALs when he was taken into custody in September 2018, his brother Sean said. Gallagher had planned to retire in the spring.

It was a long time ago but the instruction on the treatment of POWs was pretty cut and dried when I was in basic: you are supposed to safeguard ANY prisoner in your care until properly discharged to authorities in the rear. Someone wants to harm the prisoner? You are duty-bound to defend their life with yours. Any means necessary.
It was a difficult class, and we must have done the drills all afternoon until a tired recruit started swinging to connect with the nose of the DI “harassing” our prisoner.
“That’s a start. And you’ll expected to do better than that!” Then it hit us. And we started using our fists and rifle butts to protect the “prisoners.” No, more, “Hey...” It was “Get the F— back!” Followed by a lusty swing. Sometimes it hit. Once everyone had their turn, lesson over, a short test, and back to the cattle-trucks.
“Scott also told the defense counsel that during his time serving overseas, he had witnessed the Iraqi Emergency Response Division “torture, rape and murder prisoners.”

Yeah, seals and medics in particular should be allowed to murder their prisoners regardless of what the Law of War says
Really any other way of doing it just makes those Geneva Conventions a trap, and actually encourages atrocities and misbehaviors for the advantage they give.

Stabbing a prisoner with a knife (if true) is still a major no-no and can be prosecuted as attempted murder.

I’ve done some research on this...here’s what I’ve read.
Gallagher has been a Seal for like 18 years with multiple combat tour and medals and has never been written up before.
He’s known as a total hard ass for details.
He’s also a trained medic.
He did cut the prisoners throat but he put in a device in his trachea to help him breathe...
What this has come down to is a hard core 18-year veteran disciplined a bunch of new navy seals who couldn’t deal with it and made allegations that have now gone on way to long...

The Geneva Convention agreement of 1929 only covered treatment of wounded military, not healthy combatants. So technically, this would be allowed. To add to your statement about SS officers, any German soldier belonging to a named division (Grossdeutchland, Leibstandarte SS Adolph Hitler, Goering, etc.) was also susceptible to immediate execution.

Feigning Incapacitation is the oldest trick. . .that is why you can kill the enemy if he has not surrendered.
If a prisoner attempts to use force to escape, you can kill him.

In my 24 years I’ve seen scams but the worst scams and abuses seemed to come from 0-7 or higher, and the worst is the abuse inflicted by the legal guys.
Sadly, the civilian judicial system and the military judicial system are much alike: Justice is not the goal and guilt or innocence are immaterial.

Get your facts straight Pal, he was given immunity. And as for your view on this incident, you may want to grow up a bit before making judgments on men who have faced combat.

It’s not discussed very much, but during the Normandy campaign a signifigant portion of Germans who surrendered failed to make it to the rear echelon for processing as POWS. This was due to a similar policy from the Germans. There was a lot of Waffen SS in the Normandy campaign and they were absolutely brutal. Regular German landsers were more likely to be taken prisoner alive. SS troops rarely made it to the rear.
