President Trumps pick to be the nations first-ever border czar is a longtime former cop and immigration official who takes a hard line on illegal crossings.
Former acting ICE Director Thomas Homan told Secrets early in the Trump administration, for example, that he views every unauthorized border crossing as a crime that can and should be punished.
"If you are in this country illegally, and you committed a crime by entering this country, you should be uncomfortable, you should look over your shoulder, and you need to be worried," Homan told Secrets.
"No population is off the table," he told a House Appropriations subcommittee hearing in 2017. "We'll issue detainers to anybody in the country illegally," he said. "Our priorities are criminals first, but if you're asking me if we are going to put detainers on people that have not been convicted of a crime, yes we will," he added referring to the first step in deportation.
All we have heard from a succession of immigration officials even going back to the Obama administration is that the border crisis cannot be solved until Congress acts. Tom Homan is a man of action, so I expect that mind-set and that narrative to change, added Jessica M. Vaughan, director of policy studies for the Center for Immigration Studies.
I think that Ken Cuccinelli and Tom Homan will work well together, because Cuccinelli also wants to hit the ground running and has ideas for how to tackle the border crisis. They are both rule-of-law kind of guys. One thing that Cuccinelli brings to the operation is his understanding of how states can be full and constructive partners in immigration enforcement, she told Secret.

Non sequitur
old timers who stayed out of trouble
So thankful for this guy!.....He and the President will work well
B-but what about the widuw children trying to make a living as a rent-a-kid. Will they be sepawated fwom their ‘famiwy’?
Just another un-elected blathering bureaucrat.
Doesn’t he need to be confirmed in the Senate to head up DHS?
Now your talking..! We also need to change the law so local law enforcement can lend a hand in rounding up the bad guys...
I agree with Steve. Send them home for 30 days at the end of the year. Spend holidays with their kin.
Too many of the assumed illegals don’t like the rest of us. I can only assume they ‘tolerate’ us. In our own country too. Perhaps they think it’s theirs.
I dunno...Are they illegal immigrants? Do they know they have been and still are breaking our law? Doing so for one year vs. twenty changes how to pursue?
Too many of the assumed illegals dont like the rest of us.
Many Mexicans here believe were in their land, that they will overtake us before long, and they make their temporary tolerance of us pretty obvious. They laugh behind our backs, at us with their eyes.
Homan is a tough bad-ass patriot. I am SO glad he’ll be working for Trump and us. What took him so long to make this appointment?
“Why not put him in charge of DHS “
He might have a hard time being confirmed. But I don’t think he’d worry about that. I think he’d make mincemeat of anyone giving him a hard time in hearings.
Nielson’s tenure was a disaster. Homan and Cuchinelli are stellar! We can thank her for doing so little to stop the invasion.
>
YEP. E-Verify, this the only way to stop this flow of invaders.
Enforce the LAW and send a few employers to jail after a stiff Fine ($$$$$)
Control of our voting rolls to stop ballet box stuffing by illegal immigrants that are not and should not be allowed to vote in our elections.
Go Trump Go!!!!

Bull squeeze. Boy, the ‘conservative’ goes RIGHT out the window w/ certain topics of discussion.
INCORRECT. The WAY to stop the flow of invaders is: ELIMINATE THE ILLEGAL WELFARE STATE.
Restoration of Rights, eliminate the ‘carrot’ & shrink govt size/scope. WIN-WIN-WIN.
Then, enforce, arrest & prosecute EVERY govt employee for any/everything possible: aiding, abetting, harboring, obstruction, dereliction of duty, violation of oath of office...jay-walking.
There’s Z-E-R-O Constitutional authority for e-Verify. It is merely another way for govt to put blame on a job they fail to do onto biz.
The problem is that only 2% pick veggies. They have taken over virtually all mid level jobs where I live. When I first moved here, most employees were making $16 per hour, and that was 18 years ago. Thanks to the invasion, they now make minimum wage with cut hours so they can’t get healthcare. No healthcare benefits. No personal days or sick days.
In my state, if you work 7 hours per day, they only have to give you one ten minute break per day! My employer gave us a single 15 minute break out of the goodness of their hearts. At 8 hours, you get 2 - 15 minute breaks and a 1/2 hour lunch, plus benefits. What a difference 1 hour makes.
Trump can collect it, but he can't spend that money without it being appropriated by Congress.
YES! Homan is the man to clean up the border problems. Give him the legal and manpower assets he needs, and let him loose.
The reverse flow back to Mexico etc. will look like a million cockroaches running from a searchlight. Might even include a few U.S. politicians whose loyalty lies below the Rio Grand.
Great, but until you build The Wall, all this deportation shit is nonsense.
Think a Mexican contractor who’s hiring Mexicans would use e-Verify?
It’s how/why he was elected and he knows it. It’s just a great campaign issue. If it’s solved there’s no more issue to campaign on. That’s how I see it. Not just him but all politicians. If they solve problems they cease being campaign issues.
