At one point after the Gentle Giant Michael Brown imbrolio the urban confabulation became, "He said, 'I just want to go to college and have kids..!'"

Early on they didn't know just how much they'd be able to get away with, that time, so they started out by really laying it on.

It is amazing, the number of people who don't re-evaluate the past in light of our implausible present.

While the Emmett Till story happened just a little before my time, the facts were basically he told the grocery owner lady that he'd been with white women back in Chicago and she and he ought to have sex. His friends confirmed this in several news article following the trail and after wards. His Mississippi cousins warned him that this wasn't the way things were done in the South but, the smart Alec he was, he ignored him and insulted the woman. She told her husband and the husband and his brother-in-law along with another coworker showed up at the boy's grandfather's home intent to scared the boy but even then he smarted off at these none too politically correct rednecks and a beating turned into a vicious murder. Since they couldn't be retried by the virtue of double jeopardy, the murderers sold their story to Jet magazine and told the whole story. After the murder, they tossed the boy's remains off a bluff into the nearby river, tied down by an industrial fan. Along with the terrible wounds by the beating and the gunshot, the warm water and local catfish resulted in the horrifying photo of the boy as he lay in his casket.

The boy didn't deserve such a fate, even by the standards of 1950's American South but he ignored the warnings of his cousin's and grandfather to not go messing around with these KKK, cross burning crackers.

Much as if a redneck would wear a KKK hood and robe in any "economically distressed" area of any major city. He has the right but it ain't advisable to ignore the local "cultural norms"

And, for what ever it's worth, had a Northerner smart-ass white boy acted in the same reckless manner to a local white woman married to a local Klansman, ?I doubt the results would have been much different. His killers might get jail time if the victim had 'friends in high places' Otherwise it would never had made the national papers.
