Rendering assistance in response to a mayday call is what I would expect they will say. It does seem kind of strange that somebody sent out to a tanker that reported a limpet mine attached to the ship would just yank it off and drive away. Of course in that part of the world it might be a common problem to deal with.
Around here the Coast Guard boats deal with the usual maritime problems like sinking boats, boats that have run aground, etc. Maybe removing mines stuck on ships is all in a days work in the Gulf of Oman.

Maybe they knew it was designed not to explode and were gathering evidence to find out who may have staged this event.
That's funny. Just a average day in the Gulf. But, did they have their Coast Guard approved floatation's on hand? Flares, whistles, etc..
