What exactly would be the point of using thermal imaging in broad daylight unless you wanted blurred imaging as opposed to regular video of the incident?

To be unseen and unheard? To get legit candid video?

In military systems for thermal targeting they use InGaAs detectors (3um - 5um), operation in daylight is not an issue.
Optical video is greatly affected by glint, some call that glare. Big problem over water.
I believe the surveillance platform was a P-8A Poseidon not a helo.
