WHY do people think they should put out a 16 minute video of themselves yammering on a front porch ...

Seems some on here do it almost everyday. They write an enticing title and then you click on it and then see it’s the same person every day. I end up watching about 2 seconds of the video but they get their YouTube views. I wonder if some here view it as a way to make money. There are YouTube millionaires that have cashed in on number of views.

That's probably a good guess re monetization.

The whole field of how to count YT and other video system views is quite complex. We used to track this in marketing to see which of our various marketing campaigns was most effective.

See How Long Until Watching a YouTube Video Counts as a View? for more boring details than you could ever imagine existed. Marketing mavens discuss these things akin to "how many angels can dance on the head of a pin?"

While Google is very close-mouthed about this, the generally accepted time to count as a "view" is 30 seconds.
