They have us over a barrel, too. If Mexico’s economy tanks, we will have 500,000 refugees a month, more if a bunch of Communists come to power.

It is in the interest of both countries to settle this. Someone will have to be the loser, and that needs to be the cartels. We should do a deal to help the Mexican army destroy them, utterly. This will help Mexico normalize their economy, slow the flow of refugees and slow the entry of drugs here.

We tell Mexico upfront, either you clean up your mess, or we will.

You are making several assumptions in your statement.

1. You think that the number of people who will come over the border is a function of the economy in Mexico not the refusal of Democrats to secure the border. Mexico has always had a corrupt, backward economy that produces little or nothing of value. There was always more opportunity in the U.S. As the U.S. has built factories in Mexico and provided jobs and opportunity and the Mexican standard of living has improved, the number of people crossing the border has increased exponentially.

2. You think that the Mexican government wants to destroy the cartels. The Mexican government does not want to destroy the cartels. The Mexican government and the cartels are part of the same organization. The Mexican government is totally corrupt. It is working closely with the Mexican cartels.

If the U.S. has strong leadership we can secure the border, compel the Mexican government to work with us and end these problems at the border.
