Queen Elizabeth is the queen, not the Queen Mother. The queen’s mother, also named Elizabeth, became Queen Elizabeth when her husband became King George VI. When he died in 1952 and her daughter became the current Queen Elizabeth she then became Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother.
