One of my uncle’s brothers fought in the Battle of the Bulge. They summary executed both Waffen SS (because of Malmedy Masscre) and Germans who masqueraded as Americans. It is amazing how they were able to get the intel on this in such a heated and fast moving battle.

The Germans did a remarkable job in the planning and the initial execution. After about 3 days, it was obviously going to fail.
