It is said that she was afraid that Trump would win the popular vote and she'd win the EC. To that end she spent a lot of money running ads in NY and CA, wanting to amp up the popular vote. I also remember that in 2015/16 all the talking heads were dismissing the huge and wildly enthusiastic crowds that Trump was drawing. They said that all those people who had to spend many hours standing in line and more hours packed like sardines inside didn't mean that they would actually go out and vote for Trump. The talking heads convinced themselves that the crowds were just there to see the train wreck that was Donald Trump and that they would either stay home or vote for Clinton.
