To my mind, this is less about what than why the reveal now.
Somebody is wishing to deflate the phony moral superiority of the leftist civil rights social justice warrior media industrial complex I imagine.
If MLK was a sexist exploitive pig, then many me-too women may start to edge away from leftist civil rights groups, especially the white soccer moms. The hope is to cause the leftists’ house to be divided against itself. Someone wants to marginalize black leftist power.
I agree the timing is curious.
Something to consider is that the left has basically turned on MLK. They reject his idea of ~content of character~ mattering more than skin color. They want factionalized racial politics and MLK’s message conflicts with that. I could imagine many on the left delighting in seeing his reputation destroyed, because it would also mean the destruction of his idea.
I will add that this would be a 2fer or even a 3fer for the leftist deep state.
