You mean the English word Radar? All the books I read say thats an acronym derived from the phrase Radio Detection And Ranging.
The English word television comes from Greek and Latin words meaning far and look respectively, too.

Yes, that’s correct. What I guess I didn’t make clear was the Israelis didn’t want to import the word “Radar” from English, but to make a new word using Hebrew roots from their 3200+ year old language that had been focused on religious use for a long, long time. They combined “far” and “look” in some fashion to make the new word.
