They are too stupid to realize once they open this door, it will in time be used against them.
If the house can demand the tax records of a sitting President, any future house can demand the tax records of any politician.

You are indulging in some wishful thinking. This sort of thing only applies when Democrats do it to Republicans. When Democrats do it, there is no precedent set. Democrats will continue to ignore court rulings, congressional subpoenas etc, just as they always have. Democrats know they can do whatever they want, there are never any repercussions.
Thing is this will only happen to republican presidents. The republicans in congress are way too cowardly to ever do this to a democrat president. Although that would be what should happen so they know what its like.

Actually, they are smart enough to realize that the GOP will never employ these police state tactics against Democrats.
The financial records of all elected officials and high level bureaucrats should be fair game.
Generally Presidential candidates have released their returns. I don’t even know who the last one was who didn’t.
