Many NCAA athletes failed their examinations in HS but yet were still admitted under athletic scholarships. There is no difference here except the NCAA program brings in mountains of money.
I’ve said it since day one... the real scandal isn’t so much these people cheated to get in...its the fact, that as far as we know, not one single solitary person that cheated to get in FLUNKED OUT!!
Meaning, simply put, the admissions criteria has ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with the educational demands of the schools.
Because if the admission criteria were there to make sure folks only get in who can actually handle the work, then at least SOME of these kids who cheated (or who’s parents cheated) to get in would not be able to handle it and would have failed out... the fact, that as far as we know, NONE have... well that tells you the admissions system is a joke and that the education these schools offer is not “elite” at all.
Schools make the rules. If an athlete cheats to get in it is an equivalently bad situation and they should face expulsion. If the school sets lower standards for athletes, that’s up to them and not s bad as lying/cheating/bribing.
He cheated to get in but he did the work to earn the credits.
Im more sympathetic.
Alumni who are big givers have always seemed to get preferential treatment.
Same difference.
Money frequently greases the skids.
If only he were born a poor black child...
You mean folks like this?
Art imitates life. Or izzat bass ackwards? d;^)
Either way, seems to be a lotta that goin' around lately.
Son of a guy I know has 4.0+ HS GPA, lots of extracurriculars, excellent SAT scores - and didn’t get into GA Tech. White male. We have our suspicions how that is (not) working.
That’s like supporting a guy who robbed a bank to start a business.
Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. You lose, now go away.
At best, let him keep his core grades but forfeit everything in his major, and fine him $1,000,000 or more to remunerate the kid who didn’t get in because he cheated
What were his grades at Georgetown?
College admittance should be on grades or, even better, a college admittance exam. Each collage could make up their own specific to their school.
No legacy. No sports. No special victim group. Just can you do the class work or not.
Know all about it. Our valedictorian from a top public high school didn’t get an icy acceptance. All around great kid music, art, some sports, top grades. But white male. Eventually got into Cornell. Meanwhile, valedictorian from all black high school got into every Ivy.
Ivy not icy.
Grades were 3.18 at Georgetown.
Don’t you think the school has some responsibility in this situation? Where are the controls?
Ithaca is the City of Evil.
You think merit is the only way in? I wish it was so, but that would destroy college sports, wouldn't it. And what about all those "disadvantaged" kids they let in to meet quota's. Sorry, but they don't belong there. Not even close to being ready for college.
They have responsibility, but not criminal responsibility. They are the victims of fraud. It’s like you can blame someone who left their door unlocked and got burglarized, but you still punish the thief, not the homeowner.
Why is Ithaca the city of evil. That’s a new one.
Behind Liberal Lines runs a ping list highlighting all the crazy Leftist stuff going on at the city, Cornell, and the College of Ithaca, and that is the tagline. There are years of posts.
