Just the two of us also; but I can get the big containers for almost the price of the smaller ones.
If the milk goes bad on us; the barn cats get a treat that evening!
I think pretty much everything is like that in California. Its one reason, among several, that I left.
About 5 years ago, our ancient refrig/freezer died down..
Friends had the same thing happen about a year ahead.
Like us, they only have to keep food for two and no hordes of teens. They downsized their kitchen fridge/freezer combo.
So we bought the same great KitchenAid combo with the frig on top and freezer on the bottom with the frig section probably 1/3 smaller than our older model. So, we have to watch what we buy not to overload the frig section.
Milk in gallons or half would take up too much space. We don’t drink it any more.
Besides, we just want our neighbor’s 2 barn cats to just visit and not take up residence. One is nicknamed Midnight and only comes out to hunt during the night. The other named Spot, is about 15+ pounds, is a day cat. They are our type of cats, they ignore us and vice versa.
Spot sometimes rests on a retaining wall to wait for birds. My wife has a connected hose to discourage that. They apparently enjoyed our 2 groups of quail for main courses as we have none now.
She loves live quail and bunnies and not cats. Since our neighbors got their barn cats, zippo quail and bunnies.
She calls the cats worthless as they let a herd of deer roam throughout our neighborhood eating any that is green, has flowers and grows.
