I'm sure Trump and his people toss around all sorts of ideas, scenarios, etc... every leader does that.
I can imagine Trump and Mattis (and all the aides) sitting around, discussing Kim... I can imagine Trump saying "what if we just sent someone in to take the guy out?"... I can imagine Mattis saying "perhaps we could, but I see problem x,y, z". I can imagine the Hill spinning this as "defying Trump's orders".
The Hill and their unnamed former official (if even real) are slinging B.S. as per usual.

absolutely right - put the conference or meeting into a “think tank” mode where every thought, no matter how dumb is introduced without consequence. Anything goes and the right solution usually results at the end of the time. Good point.
