The 2nd Amendment specifically protects the rights of Americans to own machine guns, short barrel shotguns, suppressors and any other weapons that our government uses. There is no reason for state and local cops and tens of thousands of non military federal agents to possess thousands of machine guns while at the same time they are banned for the American people who they are to serve.

Calling suppressors 'machine guns' is especially idiotic. I don't know much of the history of the 1930's NFA, but I'd bet there were more than a few statists/communists involved in it's formulation and passage.

FYI - The NRA was front and center in it's support for the NFA '34. NRA Supported the National Firearms Act of 1934
