I did notice when I linked to the Cannibal version that the image of the record showed it was written by Chris Kenner. I remember him from "I like it Like that" but had never heard his version of Land.

This version was getting airplay (early 1965) in Southern California at the same time as the one by Cannibal & the Headhunters. However, it was Cannibal & Co. that came away with the hit. Both groups are from the East LA area.

Thee Midniters performed around this area for decades. I think they are still around.
