Out in the buffalo herd, this would be called “busting
your horns”.
When there is a dust-up about who is the “alpha”, the
contenders will butt heads until one is subject to an
attack of remorse or inferiority, and stumbles in the
fight, usually because of a sideways push from the
superior.
The Family McCain chose some time ago to be in a contest
with Donald J. Trump, and McCain Pater stood his
ground until death overtook him. Continuing the
tradition of blood feud, the rest of the family could
not, even after the demise of their patriarch, come
to a compromise with Trump, because of their “honor”.
