Donald Trump issued on Monday an Earth Day proclamation that omitted any mention of climate change or the cavalcade of environmental threats posed by deforestation, species loss and plastic pollution. The president chose instead to praise the benefits of a “strong market economy”.
Trump praised the “abundant beauty and life-sustaining bounty” of the American environment but did not echo growing warnings from scientists over rising temperatures or the precipitous decline of many species.
“Environmental protection and economic prosperity go hand in hand,” Trump said in his message for Earth Day, a global event held to support environmental protection annually since 1970.
“A strong market economy is essential to protecting our critical natural resources and fostering a legacy of conservation. My administration is committed to being effective stewards of our environment while encouraging opportunities for American workers and their families.”
Trump added: “At the same time that our nation is experiencing historic economic and job growth, our air and water quality ranks among the highest in the world.” He stated that his administration has “expanded support for conservation of land, water and wildlife”.

Millenia ago, various sacrifices - food, valuables, animals, humans - were offered up to various Gods in hopes of placating them. Keep The Gods happy, and the seas will be smooth for sailing and The Weather will be good for bountiful crops.
Storms, floods and droughts were considered in much the same vein. "What have we done to anger The Gods? We must be more mindful of what the high priests say they desire."

I remember the first Earth Day. I was in the 7th grade and we had to do a Earth Day art project in art class. The Ecology sign was a circle with a line through the center.
No sane person wants to breathe dirty air, drink polluted water, or eat radioactive and mercury saturated fish.
Trump added: “At the same time that our nation is experiencing historic economic and job growth, our air and water quality ranks among the highest in the world.”And in direct conflict with the bizarro world view of the crazy left, he is correct. Cleaner air than almost all of those lefty eurotwits that look down their noses at the USA, and try to paint us as backward, polluting, independent, capitalist bullies. Cleaner air than France, Denmark, Ireland, Switzerland, Germany, Netherlands, Austria, Italy, and the rest. So let's make up a new type of pollution that is directly tied to productivity and high standards of living! Let's declare co2 a pollutant!
