Notre Dame cathedral has caught fire, according to the Parisian fire service and eyewitnesses.
Footage posted online shows a large fire engulfing the upper part of the cathedral, with the flames licking around its two bell towers.
A major operation was under way, the fire department added, while a city hall spokesman said on Twitter that the area was being cleared.
Officials in Paris said the fire could be linked to renovation works being carried out at the cathedral.
It comes after France's Saint Sulpice church , used in the filming of Dan Brown’s ‘Da Vinci Code’ thriller, caught fire in March.

The roof has collapsed and the fire is still raging; old beams and timbers burning-up like straw.
Seriously. I also read they think there is 3 pieces of the true cross up there. These phony relics are one of the reasons for the reformation. It’s a tragic loss of an historic building though

I wonder if this is the work of arson/terrorism vs. something more mundane, like an electrical fire (things often go wrong when retrofitting old buildings for electric lighting).

It could be a construction accident, or perhaps some people did something.
Dayum. I might have climbed the staircase in that spire to get a spectacular view of Paris with my Dad back in 1986. I had to climb around 500 steps to get there, if I recall correctly. But I was 19 and a lightweight back then, so the climb hardly tired me.
Not matter what/who the cause, satan is at the bottom of this.
When will they announce a new mosque to be built on the site, you know, as a symbol of peace and brotherhood, and commitment to France’s “diversity?”

The skilled artisans no longer exist to “rebuild” the cathedral. It took generations to build it.
It’s probably only a matter of time. And most of the French will accept it.

You know like Hillary managed to destroy her Blackberrys while helping the FBI with their investigation of her email.
My money is on a spark from the electrical system in the roof, possibly caused by the ongoing renovations.
