The LAST thing these clowns seem to realize is that the ‘plan’ doesn’t work once they force all the earners either out of it or underground.

a/ because I have lasted so long and
b/ because ‘they’ managed to ‘steal’ 7 or so cents out of most dollars I earned for my first 40 years of working (1953-1993) and then 15 or so cents out of EVERY dollar after that till I started drawing SS in 2008 at 69.
Also they got me for Medicare for almost 45 years and I don’t even use it... Of course I don’t use my VA either so I am saving ‘y’all’ a bundle of money...<: <:

I still get a chuckle out of when the Govt came up with a brilliant idea to pay for EVERYONES health care by taxing cigarettes to the ‘breaking point’ - not even considering if all stopped smoking there would be no money.
Typical Government action, start it and have no way of funding it when it comes needed.

Rush L used to tell ‘us’ to walk up to smokers and thank them for providing us with health care.

When I went in USN in 1956 and aboard ship in 1957 cigarettes were 90 cents a carton or 10 cents a loose pack.

Actually, that won't dry up completely. Regular smokers are typically addicted to the nicotine and a lot of them won't quit smoking quite literally to save their own lives. In Maryland, they're about 5 or 6 dollars a pack, and yet nearly the entire staff at the local Food Lion is taking smoke breaks. The smoking rate may be down to 20%, but it's a pretty solid 20%, IMO. They're addicts, period, which makes this form of taxation horrible, since the government is taking advantage of the addicts.

True story: a friend's father just passed away. He had COPD and was on oxygen, but kept smoking, anyhow. If he had not died from his ruined lungs, he would have died from blowing himself up.
