Apparently, while running for office she took a salary from her campaign account, which is legal according to the FEC. However, she took the salary because she had blown through her savings of, $50k(as reported). So......
She claims to have been struggling to pay the bills, with her partner, in the condo she got from her dad. Even though it was paid for and all they were responsible for was, about $1000 a month, for HOA fees, utilities and taxes. If you can’t come up with $1000 a month, between 2 people, in NYC then you’re doing something wrong.
When word gets out that she’s never been seen at her condo, we learn that she and her partner are renting somewhere else, because they needed a bigger place. Soooo, the two of them struggle coming up with $1000/month to pay for the place she inherited, but pay rent and everything else for a bigger place down the street. WTF is that all about?
Now, back to the $50k she burned through. She was a bartender that went to Boston University. I’m not one that thinks just because you graduated from this school or that school, that you’ll be printing your own money, but???? Where did all that money come from? Did it come from tips earned at the bar? The bar that went out of business? Hmmmmm????
So, she was struggling to come up with her half of $1000/month for a place that had no mortgage ... but she and her partner move down the block to a bigger place where they paying for rent and utilities and I’m thinking it was a lot more than $1000/month ... and she burned through $50k while campaigning, forcing her to take a salary from the campaign.
As with the previous occupant of the White House, a Police Explorer could smell that something ain’t right and even the most basic of questions couldn’t be answered truthfully.
Does the Constitution authorize Congress to do this kind of action?
Congress is the Legislative branch, but here, they’re acting like the Executive Branch.

I’ve always found it strange that political attackers think they will find something illegal in an accepted tax return that the IRS missed.

She worked at some start-up incubator shortly after she was out of college. Her start-up was publishing childrens' books. It is not totally clear how many people were involved in her company. Anyway, she got seed money from that incubator, her start-up ultimately failed, and she owed back taxes on the company. I don't know how a company that goes out of business has a federal corporate income tax liability, given it apparently was operating at a loss.
I would not be the least bit surprised if the $50K came in part from that.
It also is possible she got an inheritance from her father. He was either the full owner or 50% owner of an architectural firm. I don't know how it was handled after his death. If a partnership, did the family sell her father's share to the other partner? Was the business just dissolved?
AOC has tried to cultivate an image of herself which is not born out by the facts. She gets very defensive when people get close to the truth. It is very Obamaesque.

I have decided to release my Tax returns and I have also signed an Executive Order requiring the Treasury Dept to PUBLISH the Tax Returns of every Member of Congress and Staff members at he same time they publish mine.

There is no reason to ask, but there is Federal Law that says the IRS must comply.
